the stories of a los angeles violinist

candy

Added on by Jordan Martone.

it's that time of year! annual burn-your-fingerprints-off-making-german-christmas-candy time! it's a slocum family tradition. it requires lots of hot liquid sugar being cut up as it cools into bite size shapes. every year we wonder aloud "why do we do this?!" because, to be honest, it's incredibly painful. touching the hot sugar is a game in itself, god forbid you get a string of sugar wrapped around your finger. it burns for eternity.

but, isn't it so pretty?!

this year's flavors: cinnamon, wintergreen, butter rum, toffee and cranberry. the cranberry one is kinda to die for.

this tradition has been "initiation" for any guy i ever dated. if your significant other can handle burnt-fingers night then he's good to go. it's silly but also a little serious.

joe is a pro at this now after his second year of candy making. i'm proud! and i love including him in our traditions.

it also makes delightful christmas goody gifts.

was it my brightest idea to do this two days before my violin jury? probably not.. my fingers are quite sore...

happy christmas from my family to yours!
