the stories of a los angeles violinist

concert mistress

Added on by Jordan Martone.

i'm thrilled to announce that i have won a spot in the csun symphony as concert mistress! (for those who don't know, this means i am the first violinist in the orchestra.) this has been a goal of mine since i arrived at csun my freshman year: to be concert chair at least once by the time i graduate. and now i will have the opportunity to do it before i'm even a senior. how exciting!

in high school i was the concert mistress of the palmdale playhouse youth and community orchestras for 4 consecutive semesters. it was a very fun time in my life. i enjoyed having the responsibility of having such a leadership role in the orchestra. it was a time of growth for me as a young violinist to learn how to be a good leader that people trust and actually want to follow. there's nothing worse than following an unqualified leader or someone who doesn't know what they're doing. so, it's my job to set a good example.

i am excited to share this opportunity with my dear friend who I will be splitting the responsibility with. our conductor wants to see how we do in the spot to see who will continue on as concert chair for the remainder of the semester. i am eager to show him what i have to offer.

so, like the kaiser permanente kid says, "things are lookin' up!"
