NAMM doesn't actually mean that. or noodles around morose malt, or nuclear ass man milk. but how funny would that be? NAMM actually means national association of music merchants. NAMM is an enormous music convention that showcases a variety of performances, new instruments, and music technology. people from all over the world fly in to attend or set up their own booth to promote their new products. it's relatively exclusive as you have to either work for a NAMM affiliate company or be a NAMM performer to attend. it is the olympics of modern music.
also, NAMM is located across the street from disneyland. driving all the way to anaheim, seeing space mountain, and not being able to ride it?! the pits.
this year, i had the privilege of being a performer at NAMM with the Shelby & Tieg band, a folk duo. we played a 45 minute set on the marriot stage and it was excellent publicity for the band. unfortunately, the sound guy wasn't the best because we had a ton of feedback during the entire set. talk about a bummer, dude. (i know sound guys often get a bad rap, but this is why.)
our green room looked really cool. there was free, crummy beer. like we were rockstars. then, i was forced to wear this white lace dress that reminded me of little house on the prairie. i hate it. but there it is. we NAMMed.
coincidentally, my mom performed at NAMM when she was my age! she was in a vocal jazz group called vocal underground. they rocked, they rolled, they booped, they bopped. and here is an embarrassing promotion photo:
how odd would it be if my future daughter NAMMs? it'd be a tradition of sorts. my mom sang, i played violin, would she play accordion? i love accordion.
anyways, NAMM is cool. i felt cool while NAMMing. there may be another NAMM post when joe and I go back on sunday. happy NAMM season.
