the stories of a los angeles violinist

nesty

Added on by Jordan Martone.

now that i'm a little more settled in to the new place, i've become incredibly and annoyingly nesty.

i love decorating and making art and making a space feel comfortable and livable. after living in the dorms for two years and then two random apartments (with people who don't know how to keep a kitchen clean. sheesh!) this place is heaven.

so since i'll be in this new apartment for quite a while, i'm nesting hard core. after all, this is going to be my first home with joe. *heart eyes*

i keep dreaming of decorating for christmas and getting a small, but real, christmas tree for the living room. making this place smell like pine needles and setting up twinkling lights makes my heart flutter.

anyways, here is a mini apartment-highlights tour.

i sketched this cityscape for joe a year or so ago. it's modeled after the paper man cartoon, but i added some "martone" touches.

i added the incredibles to my disney paintings. i just now realized that peter pan is crooked. gah .

our save the date fit almost perfectly in this frame. so i said "good enough for me" and now the two of us cuties are represented here.

having this brand new remodeled kitchen has felt like a dream. and there's no one here to dirty it up or "not clean the stove after making mac and cheese" or "spill salsa in the fridge and not clean it up". (can you tell i've struggled with this for the past 3 years?) i made my first homemade meal in it last night. pasta pomodoro. it was a dream. i made dinner, ate dinner, cleaned up after dinner, and was blissfully happy the whole time. (minus the part when i was so hungry while cooking that i snapped at joe a little. i turn back in to a child when i need food. sorry, love...)

"i love that after a day when nothing is sure... you can come home and absolutely know that if you add egg yolks to chocolate and sugar and milk, it will get thick. it's such a comfort." - julie powell. one of my most favorite quotes, now hung above my beautiful cutting board made by joe. (he builds me things! he's like my own luke danes! *swoon*)

joe knows i've always wanted a chalkboard to write on. he surprised me with this great chalkboard/key ring/mail holder thing that is rocking my world. he also surprised me with this painting of a violinist by my favorite artist as of late, oana befort. i like to think that this girl looks like the fairy version of me...

speaking of oana, i have started to copy her work in an attempt to sharpen my watercolor skills. she specializes in animals and flowers, which are not necessarily my object of choice to paint, but they are incredibly inspiring and colorful. i finished this sleeping deer while my brother came for a visit on sunday and stayed to use my wifi. (i understand, college kid. you're welcome.)

this yankee pumpkin pie candle is rocking my world. i know, i know, i don't like pumpkin pie. but i do love the smell of this candle. it smells like fall. and while i was blissfully happy with last week's sneak peak at fall weather (this week is back to high temps. blah.) i began to do some online shopping for fall sweaters and one of them came just in time for yesterday's 85 degree day... heh heh. you just have to laugh about it.

my early mornings in this new cozy little apartment, before my crazy days start, are my most treasured time of the day. it's still dark outside, foggy, cold, i sit on the couch with my coffee, the smell of that pumpkin pie candle still in the air from burning it last night, and i thank my lucky stars. a newlywed couple is supposed to have a crummy hole-in-the wall place for their first home together, right? and we will get to have this place, which is much more than we ever expected. life has been smiling on us lately. things are going smoothly and even though i am busier than ever with teaching, school, violin, gigs, auditions, etc. i'd rather be living this crazy life than any other one.
