i am consistently impressed by how yoga is changing my body and mind. in just the few short weeks that i've attended my yoga class, i have had encouraging results. my latest accomplishments are becoming more flexible over all and that i can now do a quality headstand.

believe it or not, stella (my adorable 8-year old student) taught me this one.

after warming up and moving through the above poses, i go for the headstand. i have found the most success in maintaining my balance upside-down by bracing my forearms against the ground and clasping my hands together behind my head. it took me a while to get this one down. in order to gather up all the power it takes to hoist my body up in the air, i have to flex every abdominal muscle and i always feel as if i'm about to burst a blood vessel until i actually hit the pose. sometimes i end up sitting in this upside-down-seated-chair-pose for a while as i gather strength to get my legs up in the air.

my next goal is a handstand. now, i have the most embarrassing lack of upper body strength. this makes a handstand near impossible. it's quite sad. but, my first step is lots of push-ups. i can successfully do two. only. ha... but i have moved my hands in my headstand pose from behind my head to propped against the ground. it's been a great challenge and quite fun.

outtake! too often, i hyper extend my headstand and end up flipping myself over on to my back. ouch. here's a shot of me before i hit the ground...

i'm wearing my nike free running jacket, lorna jane sports bra and yoga pants. these pants are pretty amazing. i call them my divergent pants because of the cool stripe pattern on the sides. basically, they make me feel like tris so they're staying around for a while.

namaste.
