the stories of a los angeles violinist

21

Added on by Jordan Martone.

i'm 21! it's finally here! no more "let's go grab a drink after the show" while i sit there sipping on iced tea. no more "let's go to the fancy movie theater, oh jordan's not 21." it's a whole new world, people.

to start off my 21st birthday, i requested lunch at the tea garden with my mom and sister. i've had birthday lunch at this place for the past two birthdays now, this being the third. it's just so delightful! tea, finger sandwiches, scones, petit fours! heaven! and it was baby kenna's first time. she's been converted, of course.

 petit fours are my weakness.

petit fours are my weakness.

then, joe took me to the magic castle.

the magic castle

this place is an exclusive club where world renowned magicians perform and hollywood's most prestigious spend their down time. the only way to get in to the magic castle is to be a member or know a member. joe was lucky enough to have met the executive director at a gig he played (here) and they had dinner together at the bar, chatted it up, and then he invited joe to the magic castle.

joe and i have always wanted to go. it was sort of on our LA bucket list.

it's very old hollywood. as if the haunted mansion was a living and breathing magician's palace. there is a very strict dress code. ladies must be in very fancy dresses or pants, men must be in suit and tie. one guy tried to get in without a tie and they seriously wouldn't let him in. joe wore his gray john varvatos suit (heart eyes all night) and i wore what i like to call my black cocktail audrey dress, because it's what i think audrey would be wearing if she were living in today's day and age.

there was a very magical entrance to the club, through a bookcase-door with a secret password. joe was all giddy. we had a delicious dinner, i had my first legal drinks, and we saw a very entertaining magic show.

there is so much history and prestige at the magic castle. i felt so cool, people! i mean, richard sherman is there all the time. that's pretty legit.

unfortunately, no pictures are allowed inside the castle. it adds to the exclusivity of the place. good for them, bad for the blog.

when we got back from the night's festivities, joe's mom surprised me with a birthday cake. she is the sweetest italian mama you've ever met. so thoughtful. and this cake was funfetti. the best

this birthday was easily one of the best i've ever had. i wanted a very classy way to ring in 21 and i couldn't think of a better way to do it. i'm thankful for my thoughtful joe and our families.

very excited to see what this year will bring.
