the stories of a los angeles violinist

west side in the vpac

in my final performance of the year with the csun symphony, we played the symphonic dances from west side story and the pines of rome. it was my first concert in the beautiful valley performing arts center as concert mistress and i was just on cloud nine! i got to wear my black gown and play one of my favorite solos in the world (maria from west side) in that enormous hall for hundreds of people. awesome.

we collaborated with the kinesiology department to have choreographed dancers for west side story. and get this, in the audience were a few of the original dancers and cast members from the movie! the actor that played riff and a few of the named dancers were acknowledged from the audience. getting a standing ovation from them was awesome validation. and my mom was moved to tears, so you know it was good ;)

this concert proved a lot about what our orchestra is capable of. it was extremely successful and the audience thoroughly enjoyed it. as a result, we are getting a couple more performances in the hall next year. yay for playing in quality performance venues!

this semester as concert mistress has been great. it had its challenges but the pros outweighed the cons. i grew a lot from the experience and i hope i get the chance to do this again next year as a senior.

that's right. i'm a senior now.

welcome, summer! i could kiss you!
