this past weekend was my first bridal shower.
and boy, was it a trip.
my mom, sister, and aunt planned it mostly. it took place at my aunt's house up in tracy, ca, one of my most happy places on earth. i thought i'd share a couple snapshots from various phones at the event.
my cousin-in-law (if that's a thing) alissa was able to come by and fill in a seriously empty hole of much-needed girl time. she's one of those ladies that i just cannot see my life without. not sure i fully accessed my true self until i met her. crazy wonderful lady.
this shower consisted of only my northern california family, since i really wanted to celebrate with them, but they live 5+ hours away. so we brought the party to them. my aunts, cousins, and grandmas were all there.
something that i think was a very unique idea for a shower was that we made the wedding favors together with all the ladies. our favors are small jars of homemade jam. (a play on the fact that joe and i will have the exact same initials when we get married. j.a.m. and the ladies in my family make amazing homemade jam, so ya know.) we all donned aprons, smashed berries, filled jars, placed labels, and had fun.
a blonde, a brunette, and a red-head...
my mom had a teary moment during the shower when she expressed to all the ladies how much this shower meant to me. one of my fondest memories is growing up with these ladies and learning from them. it only made sense to continue the tradition at my shower, learning an old trick-of the trade by making jam together. many of these ladies were even there the day i was born.
getting married is a crazy thing. people buy you gifts and send you love, all because a boy put a ring on your finger. learning the way that weddings and traditions work is an interesting and sometimes tricky experience, but i am quite excited to get married to a wonderful man.
also, props to baby kenna for being a kick-ass maid of honor and for surviving this weekend with a double ear infection. m.o.h-muscles, kenna. m.o.h.-muscles.
